- R2021 Regulation: Includes O (10), A+ (9), A (8), B+ (7), B (6), and C (5) as passing grades. The minimum passing grade is a C.
- R2025 Regulation: Integrates modern course structures, digital skill credits, and revised credit weight criteria, retaining the 10-point GP system.
Handling Arrears (Re-attempts)
One of the most complex aspects of calculating Anna University CGPA manually is managing arrears (failures).
⚠️ Arrear Rule: If you fail a course (Grade RA/U) and subsequently clear it, your CGPA calculation should replace the failed grade points with the passing grade points. The failed semester's GPA remains on your historical transcripts, but the cumulative CGPA only counts the passing attempt, merging the duplicate subject credits.
Degree Classifications
Your final CGPA determines your graduation classification:
- First Class with Distinction: Cumulative CGPA of 8.50 and above, cleared all exams in the first attempt within the minimum semesters, and no history of arrears.
- First Class: Cumulative CGPA of 6.50 and above, allowed up to 1 additional year to clear courses.
- Second Class: All other passing candidates who successfully clear all credit requirements but do not meet the First Class cutoff.
